How to Choose the Right Baton Length?

Even with the best uniform and shoes, twirling will not be complete without a properly sized baton. Baton length greatly affects your performance:

  • A baton that is too long may collide with your arm and body.
  • A baton that is too short will make rolls more difficult and may look awkward.

Important to know:

  • The right baton is the most important part of your equipment.
  • Coaches may require different lengths.

How to measure your baton correctly?

You will need a measuring tape and the help of a friend or parent.

  1. Stand with your feet together.
  2. Extend both arms straight out to the sides, keeping your head facing forward.
  3. Have your helper place the measuring tape at the base of your neck and stretch it out to the tip of your middle finger on the extended arm/hand.
  4. The measured distance is your recommended baton length.
  5. Round the number to the nearest available baton length.
